A Novel Index Modulation Dimension Based on Filter Domain: Filter Shapes Index Modulation

A novel domain for Index Modulation (IM) named “Filter Domain” is proposed. This new generalizes many existing modulations and IM domains. In addition, a scheme Shape Modulation” (FSIM) FSIM allows higher Spectral Efficiency (SE) gain than the time frequency dimensions in Single-Input Single-Output (SISO) systems. system, bit-stream mapped using an Amplitude Phase (APM) as QAM or PSK, index of filter-shape changing at symbol rate. filter shape, being changed each symbol, enables SE SISO system without sacrificing any resources. Compared to equivalent 8QAM 16QAM schemes same SE, with QPSK 2 4 non-optimal shapes achieves 3.8 dB 1.7 respectively BER= 10 -4 , this superiority maintained selective fading channel compared SISO-IM schemes. low complexity detection scheme, approaching maximum likelihood detector performance, proposed along full performance characterization terms theoretical probability error BER lower bound. Finally, can achieve better spectral energy efficiencies when bank ISI cancellation technique are optimally designed.
